The Termalija Family Wellness project marks the culmination of a series of projects that Enota has undertaken at Terme Olimia over the past fifteen years. The design team, led by Dean Lah and Milan Tomac, has invested considerable effort into ensuring that the buildings do not merely occupy space but enhance their connection with the surrounding nature.
The complex's unique properties lie in its intricate geometry, which provides static strength to the roof, allowing it to cover the entire pool space virtually without supports. This design feature creates an illusion of the roof floating above the pool platform, which is designed as an exterior space. The numerous skylights in the roof, coupled with the ability to fully open all the facade glass surfaces, enable guests to seamlessly transition through the building's interior.
Despite its size, the new roof does not encroach upon the precious exterior space. Instead, it serves as a large summertime sunshade, further enhancing the natural ambiance. The complex's design, color, and scale are a continuation of the surrounding rural buildings, visually extending into the heart of the complex.
The complex was constructed using a combination of concrete and steel, with a large span roof construction from light steel framework. The supporting tetrahedral domes are made of laminated wooden panels, and the facade features large scale pivoting windows. The pool plaza, designed in the same manner for outdoor and indoor pools, has a concrete base clad with a Pebbletech finish, enabling complicated organic shapes.
The project, which started in 2016, was completed in May 2018 in Podčetrtek, Slovenia. The Termalija Family Wellness project is a testament to Enota's commitment to creating designs that not only serve a functional purpose but also harmonize with their natural surroundings. This approach has earned them the Golden A' Design Award, a recognition granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology.
